Essay - Analysis of an Issue
Sie haben 30 Minuten Zeit. Verfassen Sie einen Essay zu folgendem Thema:
Question: The following is an excerpt of a memorandum from the director of Advax, a large pharmaceutical corporation.
“The proposal to increase our employees’ health and retirement benefits should not be implemented at this time. An increase in these benefits is not only financially unjustified, as our last year's profits were down from the year before, but also unnecessary, as our chief competitor, Baieer; offers lower health and retirement benefits to its employees than what we currently offer to our employees.
We can assume that our employees are reasonably satisfied with their existing health and retirement benefits since two-thirds of the respondents in a recent survey expressed their favorable views. ”
Discuss how well reasoned you find this argument. In your discussion be sure to analyze the line of reasoning and the use of evidence in the argument. For example, you may need to consider what questionable assumptions underlie the thinking and what alternative explanations or counterexamples might weaken the conclusion. You can also discuss what sort of evidence would also strengthen or refute the argument, what changes in the argument would make it more logically sound, and what, if anything, would help you better evaluate its conclusion.
